Modernised Approach To Traditional Issues
Dentistry has come a long way in terms of precision and comfort. With today’s technologies, dentists are well equipped to perform dental procedures. At SmileBay Dental, our team is always on the lookout for new technologies to provide our patients with cutting-edge dental treatments that can be performed in a more efficient, effective and comfortable manner.
Panoramic 2D X-Ray Imaging
Although our 3D CBCT X-ray machines use low dose radiography, SmileBay follows the ALARA (As low As Reasonably Achievable) concept as recommended by the International Commissions on Radiological Protection ICRP. This is why every SmileBay branch is equipped with a Panoramic 2D X-Ray Machine, which provides a 2D image of the upper and lower jaws. This effectively allows for a comprehensive full mouth image with minimum x-ray dosage. In just a 10-second scan, we are able to visualise all the teeth and nerve and sinus positions, as well as detecting pathology such as dental decay, periodontal disease and pathologies of the jaws and temporo-mandibular joints (TMJ).
Dental Surgical Loupes
For everyday procedures, our SmileBay dentists utilise Dental Surgical Loupes, which are essentially magnifying glasses that provide up to 5x magnification. Conducting treatments under magnification allows our dentists to be more precise, thorough and gentle, ultimately resulting in increased patient comfort. With magnification, our dentists are also able to benefit from working in a more comfortable posture, allowing them to focus on providing the best for their patients. As a bonus, our dentists do not have to inch in too close to patients, thus greatly reducing cross-contamination risks.
Dental 3D Printing
Alongside the use of digital scanning and digital software design of dental restorations, our in-house laboratory employs 3D printing technology to complete the whole Digital Dentistry workflow. As its name suggests, we are able to print digitally designed appliances, which aids in diagnostics and treatment planning. Most of our 3D printing aid in our crown and bridge fabrication and implant surgical stents for computer guided surgery.
Digital Implant Surgery (Computer Guided Surgery)
One of the most important aspects that determine implant surgical success is the implant placement position. In the simplest terms, the implant has to be placed in a precise location surrounded by adequate bone, away from vital structures such as nerves and vessels. In order to achieve that, we combine 3D x-ray imaging from our CBCT machines with the intra-oral digital scans from our 3Shape Trios in an implant planning software. With the combined information, our dentists can pre-plan the most ideal implant position before the surgery, and 3D print surgical templates will guide the implant into the pre-planned position during surgery. The combination of the dentist’s surgical experience and computer software results in the highest precision possible for our implant patients.
Dental Intra-oral Camera
All of our SmileBay clinics are equipped with dental intra-oral cameras. The intra-oral camera is a small probe-like camera that can take images of the teeth. The images are then shown on a large screen on the dental chair, allowing our patients to see their own teeth up close in real-time. It is a simple yet effective device that allows clear understanding of patient’s condition and improves patient to dentist communication.
DSLR Photography and Studio Lighting Setup
For full mouth treatments and Smile Design, it is important for us to capture not only information about the teeth, but high quality pictures of the patient’s face and side profile as well. This allows us to design and create smiles that are natural and harmonious with the patient’s facial features. For this, our dentists use DSLR cameras from Canon and Nikon with the aid of professional grade studio lighting setups to capture high quality portraits for treatment planning and before/after photography.
