Dental Check-ups and Cleaning
Good oral hygiene is important, not only for your physical appearance but also general health. Attending regular check-ups is important in maintaining your oral health. At SmileBay Dental Surgery, we provide a comfortable, gentle and painless experience as well as accurate, quality work.
What to expect
Duration : 30 mins – 45 mins
We gently scale and polish your teeth. A thorough cleaning is required to remove all plaque and calculus. Calculus accumulated on the teeth provides the right conditions for bacteria to thrive next to the gums. With an effective ultrasonic device, we gently and painlessly remove these deposits without harming the teeth. This will rapidly and gently eliminate most forms of gum disease, and help you to preserve your oral health and prevent tooth loss.
Our dentists at SmileBay perform comprehensive dental examinations to evaluate each patient’s health and needs. This includes thoroughly examining your teeth, gums, oral cavities and any other concerns. With the information gathered, we will help you improve your oral health and achieve a healthy and beautiful smile that you’ve always dreamt of.
We have also employed a new technology – the Prophy Jet Airflow, a machine which sprays out a jet of air, water and fine powder to thoroughly clean the teeth on the surface and even in the gaps. In the case of gum disease, one will require a deeper scaling, called root planning. As this treatment cleans all around the roots of the teeth, we may discuss the option of giving local anaesthetic to prevent sensitivity and discomfort.

Tooth Coloured Fillings
Gone are the days when dentists used to fill teeth cavities with black coloured or amalgam fillings. With the vast advancement in the field of cosmetic dentistry, our team now use tooth-coloured fillings, also known as composite which are custom-blended to match the exact shade of your natural teeth. Once set, this filling compound is virtually undetectable and is 100% mercury free. This significant upgrade is able to deliver great and attractive results.
What to expect
Duration : 30 mins onwards
When fillings are needed, our team will first numb the specific area with a numbing gel or an injection which you will barely notice. Some shallow fillings can be done without any anaesthetic at all.
The cavity is then filled with tooth-coloured composite which will perfectly match your natural teeth. If the cavity is larger, we might opt for an inlay or onlay, a porcelain restoration that will cover up the cavity. If you have a cavity or would like to get your old filling upgraded, our team is here to help out.
Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Wisdom teeth are commonly known as third molars. Generally, wisdom teeth grow between the ages of 18 and 21. If wisdom teeth erupt out straight, they do not need to be removed. However, not all wisdom teeth grow in the desired way most of the time. An impacted wisdom tooth is one that is fully or partially buried under the gum line and is unable to erupt properly. This will require extraction because it is growing at the wrong place and/or at a wrong angle. When wisdom teeth are not straight, they may cause problems such as pain, discomfort or even infections. They are often food traps that are hard to clean, which makes them a breeding ground for bacteria.
A few signs that you might have an erupting / impacted tooth which you should look out for :
– Earache
– Pain and difficulty opening your mouth
– Bad breath
– Swollen glands
– Pain / swelling gums / ulcers
What to expect
45 mins – 1.5 hours
Our dentists will do a thorough examination and diagnosis to determine if your wisdom tooth requires a minor surgery to be removed. X-rays will be taken to check the position of the wisdom tooth.
Before the procedure, our dentist will walk you through the process. The surgery will be performed under local anaesthesia with care, followed by a suture and prescription of antibiotics and painkillers after the removal.
Type of Impaction : Partial, Eruption, Horizontal & Vertical Angular

Children Dentistry
Your child’s first dental visit can determine how they view dentistry and oral hygiene habits for years to come, so it’s crucial to make it a great one. By their first birthday, children should visit the dentist. Their teeth begin to erupt between the age of 6 months and 3 years. During this time, discomfort or tenderness is expected.
It is important to teach your child proper brushing and oral hygiene habits from a young age, as these measures will prevent early loss of primary teeth. It is a myth that children’s teeth are not important, as they will fall out anyway. Early loss of primary teeth is undesirable as it may lead to drifting of remaining teeth into empty spaces, resulting in misalignment of permanent teeth. This affects speech development and the self-esteem of your child, especially if it is a front tooth, as well as chewing efficiency.
What to expect
15 mins onwards
During a child’s first visit, it is essential to be able to let them first explore the surroundings of the treatment room and introduce in a gentle manner how things like the dental chair and dental instruments work, so that they feel safe to proceed to whichever treatment they are supposed to undergo.
Once the child familiarises himself with the environment, our team will then either proceed with the checkup or set a second appointment to return again, depending on the cooperation level of the child.
Emergency Care
Toothaches usually happen without your expectation and are often a painful experience. Dental pain can occur due to many reasons. However, the most important thing is to immediately alleviate the pain you are experiencing and then determine a permanent solution to ensure you remain pain-free. If you have a persistent toothache, chips, fractures, lost fillings or broken crowns, we can help to arrange an appointment on the same day.
We will try our very best to repair the damage and/or prevent it from getting worse. Our friendly reception staff can assist to make an immediate appointment with our dentist on duty so we can get the problem sorted out as soon as possible.
Are you in pain now? Your immediate wellbeing is our primary concern at SmileBay. Please contact us immediately and we’ll make time for you.
