Same-Day Crowns: The Pinnacle of Convenience

Digital Dental Lab,Smile Makeover

Dental crowns are often the go-to solution for restoring damaged teeth, reinforcing their strength, protecting them and enhancing their aesthetics. Traditionally, a dental crown procedure may involve multiple visits, with temporary crowns being deployed while the actual ones are being manufactured – a process that could take weeks. Nevertheless, advancements in dental technology have witnessed the debut of same-day dental crowns.

As its name suggests, a same-day dental crown procedure can be completed  in a matter of hours, cutting down the time-consuming process drastically. Furnished with a Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC) system and our very own in-house Digital Dental Lab, SmileBay Signature Advanced Implant Centre is well-equipped to ensure that you have a comfortable dental experience and are good to go in just one day.

The CEREC Convenience

The CEREC system utilises computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) to construct materials for dental restoration. When it comes to CEREC crowns, the highly durable ceramic is the material of choice. Facilitated by computer-assisted technology, the entire process is fast, and you get a fully restored and functional tooth in one appointment!

Here’s a quick walkthrough of what you can expect when you come to SmileBay Signature Advanced Implant Centre for your same-day crowns:

#1: Examination and Preparation

Our dentist will first examine the tooth and ascertain if a CEREC crown is the best method to repair and protect the tooth. After consultation, the damaged tooth is prepared. This includes removing any decay and weakened tissue. Local anaesthesia will be administered to ensure that there is minimal to no discomfort.

#2: Digital Impression

While conventional impression methods involve using a putty-like substance that can induce gagging, CEREC crown procedures offer a more comfortable alternative. Digital impressions are made by using a small intraoral camera that is inserted into the patient’s mouth. The camera will take numerous images of the teeth and gums. The software then pieces them together and converts the final image to a 3D impression.

#3: Designing, Milling and Sintering

The 3D impression is used to create the permanent crown. The dentist will select the right colour for the crown to match the patient’s natural teeth colour. He or she will then programme the CEREC machine accordingly and feed it with a solid ceramic block for each tooth. The milling and sintering process usually takes only around 15 minutes per tooth, and is very accurate.

#4: Fitting
Once that is done, the dentist will check the crown against the patient’s existing teeth to ensure it is a match in terms of colour, fit and bite. Subsequently, he or she will polish and cement the crown to the affected tooth.

Revolutionising Dental Restorative Efforts

For those of you looking for speed and convenience, same-day crowns may be your best bet. The entire process of capturing digital images of your teeth and jaw, designing the crown and fabricating the crown for installation will be done right here at SmileBay Signature Advanced Implant Centre on the same day. This eliminates the need for multiple dental visits.

Besides that, unlike traditional crowns that require at least a two-week waiting period for the dental lab to create a new crown, same-day crowns also mean that you won’t need to have a temporary crown, which reduces the risk of bacteria getting into your teeth, as well as requiring fewer injections. Your comfort becomes the priority of the day! With a digital impression, you will not have to worry about enduring uncomfortable traditional impressions, too.

As it is made from ceramic, your CEREC crown will be devoid of a metal core and match the natural colour of your teeth better, resulting in a more natural appearance that closely resembles the rest of your teeth. In fact, people might never notice that your tooth is sporting a crown!

Additionally, CEREC technology will facilitate the creation of accurate restorations. As your crown will be milled based on a precise digital impression of your oral structure, which is subsequently converted into a 3D model, you are assured of a precise fit.

Sturdily made, CEREC crowns are also abrasion-resistant, making them a reliable restoration that is both durability and longevity. When properly cared for, your CEREC crown should last for many years to come.
